M.U.D. Opens Construction Center II, Strengthening Service and Resiliency for Customer‑Owners

Metropolitan Utilities District is proud to announce the opening of Construction Center II (CC2), located at 10402 Potter Street near Highway 133 & State Street. The facility is a major investment in reliability, resiliency and long‑term performance of the life‑essential natural gas and water services we provide to our customer‑owners every day.

This project, which broke ground in late 2023, required 1,600 truckloads of concrete, 155 miles of wiring, 5.8 miles of piping and the coordinated work of 52 separate companies.

What does it all add up to? A safer, more efficient and better positioned M.U.D.

CC2 unites crews from several key divisions under one roof, including Construction, Transportation, Central Maintenance, Stores, Facilities Management and Gas Distribution, and it holds the equipment they need to get their jobs done efficiently. An enormous indoor parking garage protects the District’s fleet vehicles year-round.  Together, these features strengthen our coordination, ability to respond (including during emergencies or severe weather events) and overall service across our growing community.

CC2 is a mirror of our original Construction Center, which has served M.U.D. since the 1950s. This way, if operations are impacted at one facility, the other can continue to serve customers, uninterrupted. By dividing the resources and workforce, the District also creates capacity for future growth at both locations.

As a public utility, we take seriously the responsibility entrusted to us. “To our employees and our customer‑owners: this building is an investment in you, in your safety, your efficiency and your ability to serve the community with continued excellence,” said M.U.D. President Mark Doyle.

Jim Begley, board director, reiterated the District’s commitment to being responsible stewards. “This facility stands dedicated to the employees of M.U.D. who keep our community running every single day. Their work ensures safe, reliable service for every customer‑owner we serve.”
