Staying Connected When it Matters Most: New Outage and Emergency Notification System is Just Days Away
Starting June 1, M.U.D.’s new outage and emergency notification system will go live, informing you about urgent situations in your neighborhood. One of the best parts is that you don’t need to do anything to enroll. Residential customer-owners have been automatically signed up using the contact information already on file, so you’ll begin receiving timely alerts about events that impact your safety and daily life.
Why we built this
When a gas leak, water main break or widespread outage happens, every minute matters. Our new notification system is designed to get critical information into your hands as quickly as possible. That way, you can make informed decisions and know what to expect from your service.
How it works
Alerts fall into two notification categories – outages and emergencies. By default, both types will be sent via text message to the cellphone number we have on file. If we do not have a mobile number for you, the alerts will go to the email address associated with the account instead. Starting June 1, you can log into MyAccount and update your preferred method of contact under the Customer Preferences tile. You can choose to be alerted by text, email or phone call based on what works best for you.
“In an emergency, the right information at the right time can make a real difference. This new system is an important tool in keeping our community safe and informed and it’s just the beginning of how we’re modernizing the way we communicate,” said Vice President of Customer Experience Stephanie Mueller.
What you may be wondering
What if I don’t have a cellphone, email or phone number on file? You can update your contact information here. If you need to set up an online account through MyAccount, start here.
How often will I be contacted? Only during urgent situations affecting safety or major service reliability for your service address. This is not for billing or marketing messages.
Is my information secure? Yes. We use secure systems and your information is used solely to deliver utility-related notifications.
What’s next
This launch is just the first step. We’re continuing to build additional communication channels so you can hear from us in the ways that work best for you and we’ll share more in the coming months.
In the meantime, you can always view our outage map and follow us on X, Facebook and Nextdoor.
