Smart Watering

Smarter Scheduling. Better Results.

Smart Watering Starts Here.

M.U.D., in partnership with Aqualytics, is proud to announce the Smart Watering Program. Participants in the program could receive a $75 rebate for the purchase of an approved device, plus an additional $30 annual bill credit incentive.

Why Smart Watering?

The program uses smart landscape irrigation controllers, advanced analytics and predictive modeling to support long‑term water sustainability while helping home and property owners save water and money.

  • How the program works:

Traditional, fixed irrigation schedules don’t account for changing weather, seasonal needs or peak water demands. The result is often overwatering, runoff, higher costs and a strain on the public water system, especially during the hot dry months of summer.

The Smart Watering Program leverages the proprietary, weather-based intelligence models of smart landscape irrigation controllers with real-time data and predictive analytics to manage outdoor watering more effectively and alleviate stress on the water distribution system.

Occasionally, when higher water demand is expected, non‑critical irrigation can be shifted to off‑peak hours. This helps balance water use throughout the system while still delivering the right amount of water to your landscape.

  • Smarter scheduling could help you obtain better results by:

    Reducing overwatering and runoff

Maintaining a healthy and resilient landscape

    Lowering monthly irrigation water bills

    Benefiting your community and neighborhood

Automatically adjusting watering based on weather conditions

Optimizing watering schedules for seasonal changes

Getting Started

  • To participate in the program:

    1. Choose your controller. Purchase and install a pre-approved Wi-Fi enabled controller, or share your existing qualified controller.

    2. Create a device‑specific user account using the controller’s mobile app and complete the setup process.

    3. Submit your completed M.U.D. Smart Watering Program rebate form, along with the invoice for your qualified controller, if applicable.

    4. Review and sign the Aqualytics End-User Data Sharing Agreement, which will be emailed to you after submitting your rebate form. (To review the form prior to participation, click here.)

    5. Share your controller and its associated API Key with Aqualytics following the instructions for your device type. Instructions are available on this page.

Once shared, your controller will be connected to the Aqualytics dashboard via API. This enables monitoring of irrigation schedules, historical water usage and supports peak demand prediction.

  • For incentive eligibility, participants must agree to:

    – Share data with our partner, Aqualytics.

    – Follow the odd/even watering schedule based on home address.

    – No watering at any time between 6-8 a.m., including no drip irrigation.

    – Your watering schedule being shifted based upon District needs. If a scheduling shift is required, participants will be notified at least 24 hours in advance by email notification.

    – Maintain Wi-Fi enabled access for the device.

  • About the incentive:

    – Participants are eligible for an annual $30 bill credit incentive.

    – The Smart Watering Program rebate form must be completed and submitted.

    – The incentive program year is a calendar year.

    – Upon verification of program compliance, the incentive will be issued as a bill credit in December.

    – Additionally, participants may receive a $75 rebate for the purchase of an approved device.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the program mandatory?

No, the Smart Watering Program is completely voluntary.

  • Can I participate in the program if I don’t have an irrigation system?

At this time, this program is only offered to customers with an in-ground irrigation system.

  • How is my data used?

The data provided by your controller will be used to help predict peak demand days and determine if/when irrigation watering schedules might need to be shifted to reduce system strain. Any data shared between your controller and Aqualytics will be anonymized to protect your information.

  • Does the program require a Wi-Fi connection?

Yes, compliance within the Smart Watering Program can only be verified through internet connectivity.

  • What happens if I do not meet the compliance requirements?

If you do not meet the compliance requirements, you will not be eligible for the annual bill credit incentive.

  • Who is responsible for the health of my lawn and landscape?

You are ultimately responsible for the health of your lawn and landscape. If peak demand schedule shift is warranted, and you believe your yard will be negatively impacted by said shift, you may choose to manually run your system. However, doing so may make you ineligible for the incentive.

  • Can I opt out of the program?

Yes, you may opt out at any time. Opting out prior to the end of the watering season (October 31) results in the loss of eligibility for the annual incentive.

  • How do I opt out?

    Rachio opt-out steps:

Using the mobile app, tap Settings.

Under Device Management, tap Shared Access.

On the Shared Access screen, tap Remove User.

    Netro opt-out steps:

Click the provided opt-out link on the app to be removed from the program.

  • Who do I contact for further questions?

For questions related to your irrigation controller please refer to the manufacturerspecific contact information. For help understanding program requirements or incentives please email rebates@mudnebr.com or call 402.504.7032.
