8.15.01 M.U.D. lifts water alert Due to the rainfall last night and this morning, the Metropolitan Utilities District has lifted the Level 1 Water Alert, which has been in effect since August 4. The water alert had asked customer-owners to voluntary reduce their outdoor water use by watering lawns on an odd/even schedule. "We really appreciate the cooperation of our customers in reducing their outdoor water use the past week or so," said General Manager Jerry Radek. "Our customers' voluntary conservation cut use by 15 million gallons a day, which allowed us to maintain water pressure and keep the west Omaha reservoirs at reasonable levels." On August 14, customers used 146 million gallons of water, compared to the record use of 200 million gallons on August 1. August 1 is the record use day for 2001. All of our seven reservoirs were filled last night, August14. "Even though the water alert has been lifted, it's always a good idea to use water wisely because it is a precious resource," said Radek. Note: Omaha metro area did not receive a measurable amount of rain from July 3-August 14, 2001. |
