7.24.12 Current drought conditions have resulted in record water demand July 24th, 2012, Omaha, Neb.— On Monday of this week, the Metropolitan Utilities District delivered 224 million gallons of water to the metropolitan area, the most water ever delivered by the District in a single 24 hour period. The previous peak day consumption record was 223 million gallons, set on June 25th, 1988. Water demand is currently averaging over 190 million gallons per day for the month of July. Other than an increase of water main breaks due to extreme conditions, the water system is running efficiently and effectively and will continue to supply the needs of the community. Only unforeseen events such as a major equipment failure could change that. The water distribution system is monitored around the clock. We encourage our customers to continue watering responsibly during the cooler times of the day. For wise water use tips, please visit our website at: http://www.mudomaha.com/water/tips.html We also ask for patience with the increased level of water main breaks. These breaks often require traffic restrictions posing danger to all involved. The safety of the public and our employees, along with restoring service as quickly as possible, are top priority.
