5.5.11

From Metro Area Planning Agency newsletter, April 2011

A project that is sure to generate notice will be the use of eight compressed natural gas (CNG) buses.

The buses will be mid-sized and used on routes with smaller ridership levels, and could potentially be used during the 2012 College World Series.

This pilot project will be undertaken with funding flexed from NDOR and FHWA to the Federal Transit Administration's Urbanized Area Formula Program and obligated by Metro Transit, which is partnering with Metropolitan Utilities District (M.U.D.) on this project.

The buses also will support the recent investment by M.U.D. for two public CNG fueling stations. The stations will be located in Omaha and will be opening this summer. Use of these vehicles will also reduce ozone pollution, which is becoming a significant challenge for the metro area.
