Thirsty Americans who buy bottled water may not know that many of the rules under which public water systems supply their product do not apply to companies that sell the bottled variety.

The Environmental Protection Agency requires public systems to issue annual reports giving the source of their water, its contaminants and possible health concerns.

Some bottled water includes the same information on labels or company websites, but the Government Accountability Office recommended in a report that all labels should contain the information.

It seems only reasonable that bottlers live under the same rules as the Metropolitan Utilities District.
