10.15.08 The $352-million plant adds a 100 million-gallon-per-day pumping capacity to our system, bringing the total pumping capacity to 334 million gallons per day — pumping capacity envisioned to meet demands for the next 50 to 60 years. The project has been on the drawing board for decades and is the largest project in the state’s water industry since 1994. “Omaha is the greatest driver of revenue for the State of Nebraska. Our goal has always been to provide an economic growth engine for Omaha and the surrounding area” said Board Chairman Tom Dowd. “We’ve already seen Platte West’s impact on economic development in western Douglas and Sarpy counties. We’ve put our community on solid footing for responsible growth. “Low-cost water delivery is an important factor businesses look for when making relocation decisions,” he said. “And, even with the building of this project, we will continue to have among the lowest water rates in the Midwest.” Our three water plants now form a “triangle of reliability,” which is so important in this day and age of safety and security, said Dowd. |
