3.5.08 M.U.D. Employee Alvin Clark receives Distinguished Service Award The M.U.D. Board of Directors presented Alvin Clark, a 10-year employee, with the Distinguished Service Award today at its monthly meeting. Clark, a customer service technician in Field Services, was honored for actions he took January 31 to save a 10-year-old girl’s life. He was working near 56th and Parker Streets, when the girl ran to his service truck and said she had been sexually assaulted inside a duplex. Clark helped her into the truck and called 911. He then resisted efforts by the suspect who wanted Clark to return the girl. When the suspect tried to leave, Clark pulled his truck to the end of the driveway to block his exit. Soon after, several Omaha police units arrived and took the suspect into custody. According to police reports, the girl had been abducted near 27th and Burdette Streets walking to school. In addition to rescuing the girl from the situation, Clark’s actions helped police immediately apprehend the suspect. M.U.D. Vice-Chairman John McCollister presented Clark with a plaque and thanked him for his quick-thinking and courageous efforts. “We are grateful to Al for helping the child in this emergency,” he said. “We want citizens to know they can approach our employees whenever they need help. Clark joined the District in 1997. He is the 19th employee to receive the Distinguished Service Award since the program was implemented in 1978. A customer-owned utility, M.U.D. serves 194,809 water and 207,553 natural gas customers in the metro Omaha area. |
