Board presents outstanding service awards

M.U.D. Board of Directors presented Jeff Bailey, Bob Haite, Rich Miranda and Mike Renner with the Outstanding Service Award today at its monthly meeting.

Bailey, a pipelayer trainee; Rich Miranda, a machine operator; and Haite and Renner, utility workers, in Construction, were honored for actions they took April 30 to help a woman and her five-month-old great-granddaughter.

The crew was installing a residential gas service when Miranda and Haite saw the woman fall from her patio. They checked to see if she was okay and helped her get back on her feet with the baby. She went inside the home.

Renner heard the baby screaming so he went back to check with the woman. He observed her acting confused and her pupils were dilated. She also was
having trouble walking upright and was favoring her left arm. He handed the baby to Miranda, who noticed a large knot on the baby’s head.

Renner called 911 and kept the woman calm. He took the woman’s cell phone and called the baby’s mother and told her about the incident.

While Renner and Miranda tended to the woman and baby, Haite and Bailey moved vehicles and cleared the narrow streets to make way for emergency vehicles.

M.U.D. Chairman Tom Dowd presented the employees with plaques and thanked them for taking the initiative to help injured citizens.

Bailey joined the District in 2007. This is the second time he received an Outstanding Service Award. He also was recognized in 2007. Miranda joined the District in 2001, Haite joined in 1999 and Renner joined in 1996.

M.U.D. established the Outstanding Service Award program in 1978.

A customer-owned utility, M.U.D. serves 194,809 water and 207,553 natural gas customers in the metro Omaha area.
