Consumer product recalls

Water heaters: The American Water Heater Co., Johnson City, TN, is recalling water heaters to replace the gas burners, which could produce carbon monoxide.

Natural gas water heaters sold under the following brand names are included in the recall: American Proline, Envirotemp, Mor-flo, Powerflex, Premier Plus and U.S. Craftmaster.

Ranges: Delayed ignition of gas in oven and broiler manufactured by Wolf Range Co. may present burn injury or fire. Consumers should discontinue use of of the oven and broiler and cll for a free in-home repair.

Consumers, who bought the range before January 1, 2000, should call 866.674.3553 (Wolfe Range Co.) between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Consumers, who bought the range after January 1,2001, should call 800.332.9513 (Wolf Appliance Co.) between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

If you are unsure of the date of purchase, call either number and the operator can help you determine which company to call.

The Wolf and Wolf Gormet brand names are written on the front of the ranges, which came in stainless steel or black steel. For the model and serial numbers of the affected ranges, go to http://www.cpsc.gov/cpspub/prerel/prhtml02/02022.html.


Maytag has asked consumers to immediately discontinue use of the broil/self-clean modes in Amana Big Oven gas ranges sold between May 2000 and July 2001.

During the broil/self-clean modes, the range can emit high levels of carbon monoxide. In addition, the temperature of the storage drawer can be come extremely high, presenting the risk of burn to consumers. Recalled range models include (numbers found inside storage drawer):

  • ACF3315A (T) (K): Serial# 0005 through 0103 (first four digits of the 10-digit.
  • ACF3335A (W) (C) (B) (S): Serial# 0005 through 0107 (first four digits of the 10-digit.
  • ACF3375A (W) (C) (B) (S): Serial# 0006 through 0107 (first four digits of the 10-digit.

(August 1999) Malfunctioning self-clean latch asembly allows user to unlatch and open open door during self-clean cycle. Amana will pay for parts, labor and travel.

(February 1994) Self-cleaning 30-inch slide-in gas ranges, manufactured by Magic Chef, a division of the Maytag Corp., may present a potential burn hazard.
